Take all the fancy out of the fine restaurant but keep the fine food. Staff it with a motley crew of colorful servers. Hang a gaggle of big sports screens everywhere. Dress it up in rustic glossy pine. This is Geronimos Bar and Grill.
Geronimos Bar and Grill in Davie, Florida.
Come for the food and beer. Stay for the games and friends. Yes, they have darts too!
I first found out about Geronimo’s about a year ago. Saw a review of it on Channel 2’s (PPS) “Check Please“ show. I passed this dive lots of times. It looked like nothing special. My wife and I soon checked out the joint.
OK, it’s a sports bar. Meh!
Now the menu was a surprise! Sandwiches like Grilled Portobello, brushed with garlic & olive and Grilled Wasabi Tuna. We had difficult choices. Bryan, my tattooed server with the full red “Duck Dynasty” beard, recommended the Tuna. It was amazing! And so was everything that night. Came back for the wasabi tuna sandwich twice since.
About a year latter I’m back.
Bryan again quickly handed me the menu and I ordered a draft of Shake Chocolate Porter $6.50 and a basket of Onion Rings $2.99. What… no wasabi tuna sandwich, aargh! Bryan explained “…the market price got too high. So they dropped it.” He wished they kept it too. Took my second choice, Tzatziki Salmon, Fresh grilled Atlantic salmon with Tzatziki sauce on a wheat bun, blackened, with home made Cole Slaw $11.99
Beer and rings on the table.
Shake Chocolate Porter had a nice full flavor but too flat for me. The Onion Rings came in a huge basket. You can see the crunch. Thin beer batter coating with medium moist onion inside. Doesn’t even need ketchup!
The sandwich became an enjoyable interactive experience.
The salmon was cooked and nicely blackened. This was clearly fresh. The tomato slices and lettuce toppers were bright and crisp. First bite. I can feel the juice rushing down the fish, just catching the whole wheat bun.
Another beer, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale® $7.00 because I like bourbon! A lighter, red’ish brew, with a bright sweetness and hints of the bourbon. Very smooth. Can’t taste the 8.19% alcohol. Should have ordered this beer first!
By the 6th bite the bun was so full of juice it barely held together. It didn’t last to the final 2 bites.
After the meal, Bryan and I chatted about my fondness for Chocolate stouts. “I’m also the bar manager, and I have something you should try,” Bryan tells me. He insisted handing me a bottle of Samuel Smith’s Organic Chocolate Stout, one of his favorites. Wow! An amazing stout. Here’s a guy who is passionate about sharing and pleasing his guests. Geronimo’s is lucky to have him.
