When your vegan friends asks you to join them for dinner at the Clovermint Cafe, you know it’s going to be a unique foodie experience…
It was so great, my wife had to go back! Everything is homemade from scratch.
The Clovermint Cafe & Market is a cozy clean place with a vintage ambiance.
Anne, the owner of the Clovermint Cafe & Market, immediately greeted us as we walked in. All the staff is bright, smiling, happy crew! The really are delighted you came. Their creed is: Vegan cuisine. Free of gluten & refined sugar. Whole, intact ingredients. Made with love & integrity. My wife had to have the Baked Ziti (What I had last time). It’s a brown rice ziti with a ricotta made out of almonds. It tastes exactly like ricotta cheese, with no “moo!” The homemade marinara sauce is quite tasty, with a fresh and clean tomato taste that completes this plate. I think this is my current favorite plate at the Clovermint Cafe.
Last week, my dining companion Dan ordered the BBQ Tempeh Sandwich. So I had to try it tonight. It’s not really a sandwich; served open-faced on their own bread. This is suppose to look like ribs, but failed there. The taste is sweet and tangy; not hot or spicy at all. With a chewy texture to a lasting finish. The plate also has a side salad with a light dressing. I’d swear the potato salad was made with a chopped egg, but no. It tastes as great as traditional but a healthier alternative. It looks small but it satisfied my stomach.
The Raw sesame tamarind pad thai was the featured side this day. I really wanted to try that because I love a good pad thai. But instead ordered a side of Sweet Potato Medallions because it looked good on the table next door. They had a sweet almost smoky flavor. A nice paring to any entree.
Both our meals were so filling we couldn’t muster up the room for dessert. I’ll try harder next time. The Decadent Chocolate Cake with homemade chocolate syrup sounds amazing.
I had a chat with Anne after our dinner. She’s always smiling, perky, and enthusiastic about the Clovermint Cafe. It’s her dream. Anne told me that the inspiration came from all the vegan recipes that got her through collage.
